Fiber Artist - Bead Artist ARTIST STATEMENT My love of fabric transcends reality.
At an early age I created doll clothes from scraps, learning to sew at my
grandmother’s treadle machine. I
continued sewing clothing into my thirties.
All that changed in 1989, when I attended my first quilt show. After making my first “traditional”
quilt, my focus changed to original designs.
My inspiration can come from fabric, a book, an event, or even a new
quilting tool. My collection of
fabrics is extensive and allows for uninterrupted creativity. I combine commercial cottons with hand-dyed cotton, and
silks, as well as rayon, velvet, lane’, and satins.
I use the medium of textiles and thread like a painter uses his paints
and canvas. I find it exciting to
create images using a variety of fabric with different textures, patterns and
hues. Through the years, quilting has become my passion. I have added extensive embellishment to my quilts further exploring the boundaries of the art quilt. In the end, though, it is fabric that speaks to me. Fabric is a wonderful, tactile medium.
