This was a guild challenge to
incorporate pre-chosen fabrics into a quilt.
This was my second quilt, but my first original design.
The 9°
sections repeat to provide the illusion of a butterfly in motion.
There are 522 pieces in this small quilt.
The challenge fabrics included the butterfly navy
background and three other of these fabrics. I
decided that I would make a butterfly. Also,
at the same time, a new ruler had come onto the market, the 9°
wedge ruler. So using this ruler, I designed this butterfly in motion using 40
wedges to form the circle. I quilted the center body of the butterfly onto moiré cotton.
