My father was an amateur carver,
fisherman, and a lover of the outdoor life.
He was a successful teacher, counselor, and school principal, but he
loved to camp and fish. When we fished together, he always baited my hooks.
After he died, I found a totem pole that he had
carved. While researching the
history of totem poles, I discovered that they represented a person’s life.
I designed and constructed a totem to affirm my father’s life. I included four faces to signify his four children.
My father loved his church and frequently took his Sunday school classes
on fishing trips. He never caught a significant fish so…Daddy, this fish is
for you!
