The “kaleidoscope” pattern was the basis
of this original design. Using the
straight lines of the triangles, circular outlines are formed with the interplay
between light and dark. A guru can
be visualized, and his facial features are quilted.
This is an application of light source, from upper lift to bottom right.
I wanted to
make a quilt using triangles, so I bought some kaleidoscope pattern paper.
I played with the paper for several days, coloring in different patterns,
until finally the “guru” appeared. From
there, I drew in the grass and temple. (Some
people see a genie and his bottle) I
also wanted a light source to go from upper left corner to darker in the lower
right corner. The features of his
face are quilted in and I capitalized on the fabric to help form his eyes.
