After a recent trip to Hawaii, this tropical print seemed the perfect choice to illustrate a portal to the ocean.  The fish, turtle and snake are all hand-beaded, one bead at a time, on the batik.  The portal was beaded and quilted.  Then the opening was trimmed in the tropical print and the quilted portal was inserted from behind, then hand -appliquéd over the portal.  The tropical print was then quilted using a variegated thread.   I dreamed of sandy beaches, warm ocean breezes, pineapple tea and macadamia-nut cream pie while working on this piece.
